Frontier Farms
Certified Organic Produce

Online Farm Stand

Our farm uses extraordinary organic practices

Modern organic standards to be used in organic farming have changed. These relaxed standards allow for previously prohibited practices to be allowed in organic production.  We however, believe that we can do better than the standard organic practices by growing our produce in healthy soil, rich in nutrients and microbial life, free of all synthetic inputs.

What are the benefits of Organic?
Picture
Taste
Organic produce often has a more intense, fresher flavor. Without synthetic fertilizers to bulk up the veggies, the nutrients from the soil are 'slow infused' into the plant allowing a more developed flavor. Organic produce is often fresher because it doesn't contain preservatives to make it last longer.

Health
Organic foods contain higher amounts of vitamins and nutrients as well as antioxidants. But they are also missing  the toxic residues that are shown to cause cancer and a host of other health issues.

Environment
Organic practices work with nature, not against it. Our gardening practices protect against chemical runoff, avoid chemicals that harm beneficial insects needed for pollination, and feed the soil rather than destroy it. We chose to grow organically because we care about the earth we call home.

Orchards

Heirloom Apples

Did you know that there were once over 17,000 apple varieties in North America and more than three quarters have been lost over the years? As old trees die off, many old varieties are lost forever. Our family has a passion for apple trees! We have a mission to graft and save the old heirloom apple trees on our farm and in our region.

Our orchard is completely organic- no synthetic sprays or chemical used. We utilize Integrated Pest Management to keep disease and pests to a manageable level. Our chickens and ducks help keep the bad bugs under control. We pickup fallen apples regularly to break the pest cycle as well as removing fallen leaves to discourage fungus and keep bacterial leaf diseases at bay. Our apple season begins in late summer and continues until the first frost. Summer apples have some of the sweetest, most flavorful and tender flesh! Fall apples are typically the better keepers for storage. While we are still discovering new varieties, we continue to expand our orchard with rare and heirloom apples trees and pears.
