Unconventionally Grown: Grown using extraordinary organic principals
Magpie Ducks are a heritage breed first imported into the USA in 1963 by Isaac Hunter of Michigan. They are known for their distinctive black and white plumage and are active foragers of slugs, bugs and other pests. Magpies are good egglayers and produce gourmet quality meat. We have the fortune to own a certified breeding flock that has been chosen as having the best qualities. Our ducks free range the pastures under the watchful eye of our Great Pyrenees guardian dogs. We have eggs and meat available seasonally. We also occasionally have ducks available if you are interested in starting their own flock of this amazing breed, let us know if you would like to get on our wait list.
Gluten Free Baked Goods
Two of us have severe gluten intolerance, so we maintain a strict gluten sensitive kitchen. With multiple types of food allergies, we have learned to bake just about anything with alternative ingredients. Each weekend at farmers market we will have a different variety of gluten free (often dairy free too) items available. We also take special orders.
What are Heirloom fruits and Vegetables?
Heirloom seeds come from open-pollinated plants that pass on similar characteristics to their offspring. Many Heirloom plants have been cultivated for many years for superior taste, flavor and nutrition. The plants grow true from seed, much different that hybrid plants that produce offspring that are not identical to the parent plant. Heirloom seeds are often saved and passed down from generation to generation and may have local variations that are resistant to local pests and diseases. Hybrid and GMO seeds are not able to be saved and need to be purchased new each year. By growing heirloom plants, we are ensuring genetic diversity for future generations.
